How to Choose the Right AI Tools for Your School: A 5-Step Guide

Before adopting any AI tool, your school needs a clear process to test its educational value, data safety, fairness, and ethical use. Skipping these checks can lead to student privacy risks, bias, wasted programs, and reputational damage.

1. Clarify the AI tool’s purpose and set success criteria

Every good technology decision starts with asking: What problem are we trying to solve?

If teachers are drowning in marking, AI feedback tools may reduce the workload. If school leaders want clearer visibility on student progress, an analytic platform might fit. When an AI tool doesn’t fit the school’s purpose or it doesn’t fulfil set criteria, it’s likely to go unused.

3. Test for algorithmic bias, prejudice, fairness, and accessibility

4. Plan ethical use, human oversight & transparency
